Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty.

Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity. A woman has the age she deserves. I never like to think that I design for a particular person. I design for the woman I wanted to be, the woman I used to be, and - to some degree - the woman I'm still a little piece of. Attention to detail is of utmost importance when you want to look good. I am never satisfied with myself and that is what keeps me going - I have no post-satisfaction.
Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury. Everything I do is a matter of heart, body and soul. Fashions fade, style is eternal. Fashion is made to become unfashionable. I don't care about money. I really don't care. I just want to do what I do.

We must never confuse elegance with snobbery. It's a philosophy of life. A practice. If you do this, something will change, what will change is that you will change, your life will change, and if you can change you, you can perhaps change the world. We have got to change our ethics and our financial system and our whole way of understanding the world. It has to be a world in which people live rather than die; a sustainable world. It could be great. Fashion is a very stressful place to work because of the demands of doing the shows - no one expects a writer to produce two books a year on the dot - but it's also a very toxic place to work. Sometimes the simplest things are the most profound.
